Michael Raymundo - ENGLISH RST
As both an educator and lifelong learner, I am passionate about fostering transformative educational experiences that support students' academic and emotional well-being. As a member of the English Department at Maywood Academy High School, I believe in creating an inclusive classroom environment where every student's voice matters. My educational philosophy centers on the understanding that learning is a collaborative journey—one where students are empowered to think critically, express themselves authentically, and develop the social-emotional skills necessary for success both in and outside the classroom. I strive to make literature and writing accessible and relevant to students' lives, helping them discover their own unique perspectives and voices through engaging with diverse texts and creative expression.
Currently I am pursuing my Master's degree in Transformative Education with a focus on Social-Emotional Well-being at Loyola Marymount University (expected Spring 2025), I bring fresh perspectives and contemporary research-based approaches to the classroom. My academic foundation includes a Bachelor's degree in Education and Psychology from Tulane University (2023), which has equipped me with a unique understanding of both educational practices and human development.
While I am relatively new to teaching, my commitment to education began during my college years, and I have since dedicated myself to continuous growth and improvement in my practice. As an educator, I believe in being both a teacher and a mentor, creating an environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.
My dedication to student development extends beyond the classroom as I serve as the Head Boys Water Polo Coach, Boys Varsity Soccer Assistant Coach, and Head Boys JV Soccer Coach. These roles allow me to connect with students in different contexts and foster important life skills through athletics. My passion for sports is also evident in my personal life, where I am an avid follower of college football, NFL, and particularly soccer.
When not teaching or coaching, I enjoy expanding my horizons through visits to Disneyland, playing video games, and following my favorite TV series. These diverse interests help me relate to students and maintain a healthy work-life balance while continuing my professional development in education.
Fun fact: I proudly hold the distinction of being the youngest teacher at Maywood Academy High School, bringing fresh energy and contemporary perspectives to our learning community!
